Alien abductions (or lack thereof)

I thought people around the world lived in fear of being abducted by those pesky green little big headed freaks and their dreaded an*l probes...but not in Thailand! Somethings in popular culture don't move around the globe.

Been exposing my GF to more and more western TV and movies. An alien's "An*l Probe" was mentioned. Her first thought was it had something to do with ladyboys. So I explained the whole deal.

Apparently in Thailand alien abductions is something they don't concern themselves with in the media. Also if you are abducted, it is a one way trip. No returnees. As such there is no knowledge of what goes on up in those spaceships.

On an*l probe, this leads her to the question "why would aliens take you and stick things in your ass"? All I can say is "no one knows and that is the scary part". I think all of this left her with the impression that aliens that are interested in farang must all be gay aliens.

I was left with the impression that somethings really don't move around the globe. I'm going to see what others thai's think of aliens and their activities. Could be good for some bar stool laughs.

I'm also more curious to see what thais have in their popular culture. What BigFoot or Loch Ness Monster do they have?

Thai popular culture filled with animist type phobias - ghosts pee figure high on list - about every other drama has some reference to this. What do they need aliens for when travel doesnt rank high on many Thai priority list. LB's could be a lot more scary than any alien and they do have #### probes !!

and lets face it what sensible alien would want to abduct a Thai??? they'd have spaceships all flying about the place going on the wrong sides of the solar system, and selling noodle soup to all and sundry from other galaxies. place would be shut down at some stupid closing time and the sun wouldn't keep shining cos no one would put the new battery in.

You could be onto something. Apparently it is a much bigger problem in Japan. They need portable detectors there! And at 624 Baht per.

Theres one theory that all the alien abduction stories are just the modern societies continuation of the imps/devils/succubi etc appearing in medieval times, and sex played a heavy role in those stories even back then.

But for the main part, todays western cultures think all bible/temptation stuff is a load of ye olde rubbish, they've moved onto aliens whisking them away and sticking objects up their butts, which is far more believable.......

That's a really solid observation!

Guess here they are generally still holding onto there old ghosts and monsters as K2 and Dodger pointed out. So there isn't a need for newer demon replacements as you mention. Perhaps also they aren't paranoid and suspicious enough for Alien abduction to take hold. Ghost stories in Farangland are just for kids, but a child-like attitude (meant in a good way) is more prevalent here.

For fun, try and teach your girl to say "an*l probe" and then get her to use the phrase with your farang friends. You can dream up your own sentences. 555555555555 endless amounts of stupid corrupting fun over here.

My brother casually informed his thai (Nong Khai) wife that the english word for your foot was "penis". They'd been together only six/seven months at the time (11years ago) and she was in the early stages of learning english.

Backfired, big style, one day on Second Rd in Pattaya when she stubbed her toe getting into a baht bus.
Her raucous reaction to her injury led the other occupants of the vehicle to believe he was out with his ladyboy-friend.

When I was really young my old fella had to avoid the long arm of the law and move to a new country for a while.. While I was living in this rural area with no other kids about, his twisted mind decided to have a little experiment on his own child..

He told me the word for broom was cucumber and cucumber was broom.. kept it up, to see what would happen.. I stioll remember all the kids at primary school thinking I was nuts as I had broom sandwiches !!

Does anyone else think this was odd behaviour for a parent ?? I am sure this was an event that made me much more cynical.. Coming to the realization (and at 4 it was hard to understand) that my father had lied to me.. That I couldnt trust anyone !!

I know this is way off topic but...
A friend of mine told me about visiting his brother and meeting his brother's 4 yr old son.
"How are you?" asks my mate.
"Not so bad" replies the 4 yr old!

He's 4yrs old.........what could possibly be wrong!........can you imagine what he was like when he was 5!!

That wasn't you was it, LiL?

To get back on topic:

I've heard (and read) stories about balls of fire? rising up from the Mekong river, somewhere near Nong Khai. Apparently it only happens at a certain time of the year, November time, I think.

Nobody seems to know what causes this or what the phenomena is but there's been plenty of witnesses.

A sort of Thai equivalent to Loch Ness.......??

Naga fireballs.. And they do happen so its not so much a Bigfoot type thing..

One Thai specific ghoul is a phantom head that flies around with spine attached.. Cant remember its name off the top of my head..

But just general ghost / spirit / incubus and succubus / Zombie etc they seem fairly well covered.

I asked my girl friend about a scar on her leg. She said when she was a lttle girl she fell when she thought she saw a goat and started running. A few days later I realized she meant a ghost.

When I took her snorkeling in Phi Phi she was afraid the tsunami ghosts were going to get her in the water.

UNRAVELLING THE MYSTERY OF THE KING OF NAGA FIREBALLS PHENOMENON

While it is tempting to maintain the allure of the many intriguing accounts that surround the mythical origins of the "Bang Fai Phaya Naga" fireballs, scientific studies have provided ample evidence to verify the authenticity of this natural phenomenon.

The appearance of the King of Naga fireballs involves the simultaneous interplay of several forces of nature. These include the presence of conditions that are conducive to the formation of Methane-Nitrogen gas with 19% level of purity, the presence of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria co-existing in a habitat at depths of 4.55 to 13.40 metres with organic deposits forming on a bed of clay or sand, average surrounding temperatures of higher than 26?C at 10.00, 13.00 and 16.00 hours, and a PH value between 6.4 to 7.8.

As the sun warms the surface of the clay or sand bed, organic matter decomposes within 3 to 6 hours and begins to emit methane gas. Pressure builds up and the gas rises to the surface of the water. Bubbles of gas exceeding 15cc dissipate leaving behind a 12cc nucleas that floats upwards. The gas reacts with the oxygen in the air and instantly ignites. 95% of the balls of light seen are ruby-red with pinkish-red or crimson-burgundy hues. This explains why these balls of light are of uniform colour, do not emit flares, smoke or sound, and eventually dissolve into thin air without leaving a trace.

The frequency and intensity of the fireballs also vary according to several other factors such as the distance of the earth relative to the sun and moon, the intensity of "B" and "C" ultraviolet rays, and a extent of the depletion of the ozone layer in the stratosphere.

Tracking studies have indicated that there is much greater likelihood of the phenomenon occurring in the months of March to May, and September and October, on days when the earth gravitates closest to the sun and moon, and the depletion of the ozone layer allows ultraviolet rays to easily penetrate the stratosphere.

Based on these studies, the two absolute indicators for the formation of King of Naga fireballs are the presence of Methane-Nitrogen gases of 19% purity and a sufficient concentration of Ionized Atomic Oxygen to trigger a reaction called "heterogenous combustion" that results in the mystical glow of the fireballs.

My 2 favourite alien abduction type movies>>>>

If you want to see some "probing" there's a cringeworthy moment in

FIRE IN THE SKYSix men saw it. One man became a prisoner inside it. But who would believe them? In 1975, logger Travis Walton (D.B. Sweeney) and his co-workers discovered a hovering UFO. Walton's pals fled, but Walton was not so fortunate. Whisked aboard the strange aircraft, he was subjected to a painful, unearthly medical study. Fire in the Sky is the amazing tale of that ordeal... and of the contempt and ridicule endured by the co-workers as they try to explain Walton's mysterious disappearance. (He was found five days later bloodied and bruised.) James Garner plays an investigator who suspects the story may be a murder cover-up. And Robert Patrick, Craig Sheffer, Peter Berg, Bradley Gregg and Henry Thomas join Sweeney in the roles of the men staggered by an event they would have thought impossible if it hadn't happened to them... an encounter with a UFO.

....and an amateur movie filmed in a similar way to Blair Witch Project but far better>>>

Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County aka The McPherson Tape(1998)

After a mysterious blackout, a son goes out to investigate and captures footage of actual aliens. When the aliens follow him and his brothers back to their home all hell breaks loose.

If you're in the UK it's being shown on SkyMovies SciFi-Horror
August 14th - 10:00am
August 14th - 5:30pm
August 17th - 10:00am
August 17th - 5:15pm
