Magic Straight
Have been wondering about this rather esoteric hair topic.
Korean and Japanese females endure a process called "Magic Straight" to get what (most?) Western men assume is their naturally straight, perfect hair. Google it to see the pure intensity involved... $US750, five hours, two specially-trained hairstylists. Serious stuff.
Is this a procedure Thai women find useful or worthwhile?

Yes, but maybe not "Magic Straight", per say.
As I am nearly a partner, in a (soon to be) newly opened Thai Salon, I feel some qualification in the field. 55555
Thai ladies do like the straight hair look, and at the very least, will have their hair "ironed", after shampoo and drying.
The procedure for long time flattening of curls and waves (don't know the name), or as my GF calls it..."to make the hair stlaight", involves the application of some special potion, or "cream", and takes around 3 to 4 hours, in all.
Also, "velly expensive". 55555

Downsides to a straight perm (the mind boggles)
What's a "bad" magic straight perm look like?
It's either too flat, not straight enough or not ironed correctly. "If there's someone who didn't get well-trained, they can leave a permanent mark in your hair when they iron," Lee says. "They press it and leave a dent, and you have it for six months."
And I thought it only took two weeks for a bad haircut to look good!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe a thai woman would pay $750 for a perm!Even if it did take 5 hours to do that's just ridiculous.

Looking at the original post, I think its the hi-so Japanese and Korean women doing this. I doubt for one second a Thai would consider spending that amount of money (26K baht ) on her hair.

I think most Thai girls have straight hair from birth, nothing they need to pay to straighten out. Maybe different for Japanese girls?!

That seems a little extreme.
This year I paid twice for hair extensions with human hair. Once in Thailand; cost 10,000 baht. and once in Europe; cost ~€300.

Around a year ago, while visiting Phuket..."tiirak" had hair extensions and long, tiny braids done, at some Beach Rd salon.
No joking...it took 14 hours to complete, and cost 10,000baht!

Gee has her hair straightened about every 3 months Nicke, it costs from 800 to 1500 bhat, depending on which salon.
Yesterday she had it straightened and about every 432nd hair coloured dark red, so dark you cannot see the difference between it and her normal hair, 1500 baht and 3 hours????.
Didn't go into the proceedure or even ask many questions about it, as hair straightening or even cutting is not something I think about anymore!!!

I suppose there's another way to look at it too Bernie.
The money you save nowadays by not getting yours done, it doesn't hurt for Gee to get a little bit extra done. 5555555555555555

Whatever you do don't tell her you can't tell the difference. It's a female thing, missus gets it done reguarly and I think it looks better without being straightened but she thinks she looks nicer and thats what matters

Don't worry Wazza, learned that a long time ago, whatever their barnet looks like after theyv'e been to the hairdressers, (and lucky Gee tells me cos I cannot see the difference quite often), I always remark how nice it is.
Just a nidge of a change of direction to face whitener cream, okay a lot of a change of direction!!!.
Two of our Thai friends we hadn't seen for a month or so, recently visited us they looked a bit ill, then I realised it was because of the really strange off white, pale coffee coloured skin, that actually looked dead, or how I imagine a dead Thai persons skin would look after a couple of days decomposing a bit.
When I sort of indirectly mentioned it 'what the fecks happened to your boat race darling???' they told me about the face whitener cream, which all the other Thais thought was great. (they also initially mentioned they thought Oxford would win this year, tch!! idiots!!)
Firstly I didn't believe it worked, thought it was a good sales gimmick to catch out Thaisters and secondly poor old matey having to go along with his wifes desires, cos he's a building constructor, in the sun 12 hours a day and she's giving him stick, he's not using the stuff properly, cos she's sickly more off colour than him?????
Okay back to hair straighteners now, sorry for the distraction, just felt lonely and wanted to talk to someone!!!

Chelsea's Locks
Seems that when price is no obstacle and _drastic_ measures are needed, our favorite hair treatment can save the day.
From the article:
"Chelsea [Clinton] reportedly lavished hundreds of pounds on a fashionable Japanese 'hair restructuring' technique that straightened her unruly mop."
But whatever she did sure worked. Her hair is-- dare I say?-- perfect now. For a farang, that is.
