A battalion of 300? Isn't that a company? I thought a battalion was a unit of 1k-2k people...

British Army:..............ish! It's been a while!
Regiment - 600/1000 - Usually 2/3 Battalions Battalion - 200/300 - 2-6 Companies Company - 70/100 - 3/5 Platoons Platoon - 25-30 - 4/6 Sections Section - 4/8/12 depending on what they popping off to do! I worked briefly with the Thai Army engineers in Karbala in Iraq before they withdrew back to the LOS. They were at around Battalion strength.
