important

Anyone thinking of bringing their T.G to the UK then this is important.
it is now a requirement at the British Embassy in Bangkok for all visa applications to be accompanied by a TB certificate, unless it is clear that the stay in the UK will be less than six months, such as a visitor visa. All other applications need to be accompanied by a TB certificate.

Complications from miss diagnosis and it becoming meningitus is what killed Kim (Wifey1)..

Asian strains are getting more aggressive and drug resistant.. Phuket Bangkok messed around and didnt diagnose for 6 months while she got sick.. Phuket international took one look and guessed it (confirmed in tests an hour later) in the first 5 mins.. The drugs take a while to kick in and in that time the infection got into her spinal chord and brain fluids, then your dealing with menigitus..

While they are telling me she could go home that day slipped into a coma and passed..

RIP baby

Increase in UK has been blamed on Asylum Seekers/Immigrants so I can understand them introducing it. The government will have been warned about this several years ago, so they are now shutting the stable door to late.

Increase because AIDS-patients catch it very fast.

This is true , the disease was almost non-existant in the UK about 5 years ago. Now the percentage of infected people doubles each year , but most of the increase is in people from "third world" countries where the disease is still rampant. The UK will not return these people home , as they are under an "obligation" to treat them , and the cost of treatment comes out of the NHS budget.

You know this is something I have a kind of personal issue with.. I have even taken to telling some people who ask what my wife died of that it was meningitus rather than saying TB or TB meningitus because of this and associated stigma..

The girl in Holland who is currently hospitalized and doing not too well I hear, she has TB and TB only.. Kim (wife) had TB only.. While TB is often an opportunistic infection that is associated with HIV it is a disease that seems to be making a comeback and theres lots of resistant strains appearing..

My anger at the hospitals here is and was huge.. One of the biggest issues with TB is the time it takes for meds to start to improve the situation.. We were taking her to Phuket Bangkok 6 months before she was diagnosed (in 5 mins in another hospital) and 7 1/2 months before she died.. Even after she was diagnosed they were telling me everything is fine, no she doesnt need ICU, no need to transfer to Brumingrad, etc.. They literally wanted to release her the day she died but I was insisting she stayed in..

I am only getting second hand info about the Dutch girl from some mates of hers.. Shes been hospitalized and recently upgraded to ICU.. Shes not responding to the drug combinations well and as it often takes a few weeks for a new combination to work I am guessing she is right in the high risk periods..

About 10 years ago a Congolese vessel with Congolese crew was seized in my port due to shippingcompany debts. Some of the crew had HIV, and 4 needed to be hospitalised and quarantained due to TB. While TB has nothing to do with AIDS or HIV, the resistance to TB bacils or other diseases is so low in those people that they easily catch it.

How about you check yours? And how about you crawl back up your own backside? Alternatively, how about you explain why you have an opinion on everything and then delete it? Dickhead!

Hmm, you might have a point here, maybe my choice of words was not all that. So please allow me to withdraw the 'dickhead' comment, I don't know you so can't hold that sort of opinion.

Maybe I should explain myself a little. We all post comments we are none too proud of, maybe we should delete them or maybe we should apologise for them and offer an explanation. What grieves me about your posting habits is that you have been around for a good few weeks now and your post count is still 4. When you post a comment and then subsequently delete it, any replies become invalid. Not that it is a particularly big deal, a forum is just a distraction I guess, so nothing to get too excited about.

When you delete a thread you started, you delete other people's comments as well, some people may have been enjoying the thread and it may have headed off in a completely different direction. You may have started it, but you don't own it. If you 'get bored' why not just let it die? You don't have to delete things all the time, you are not the housekeeper around here, nor are you the moderator. If others get aggressive report the post or leave it to the mods, I find them pretty good.

If you don't want to play that is up to you, but taking your ball home is childish and frustrating. Once again, my apologies for rude words. I'm not hiding anywhere and you cannot possibly know what I would and would not say to your face.

Not that it really matters that much I guess, but the last I heard was as I stated, that there was no TB in Oz. If that is incorrect, then I stand corrected. I have no problem with being proved wrong.

You were wrong thinking St George were going to win the premiership last year.

Tuberculosis notifications in Australia 2003

Abstract

The National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System (NNDSS) received 982 tuberculosis (TB) notifications in 2003, of which 947 were new cases, 33 were relapses and two were cases with unknown history. The incidence of TB in Australia has remained at a stable rate since 1985 and was 4.9 cases per 100,000 population in 2003. The high-incidence groups remain people born overseas and Indigenous Australians at 19.9 and 8.7 cases per 100,000 population, respectively. By contrast the incidence in non-Indigenous Australians was 0.9 per 100,000. Comparison of the 2003 TB notification data against the performance indicators set by National Tuberculosis Advisory Committee highlights that enhanced TB control measures should be considered among these high-risk groups. Commun Dis Intell 2004;28:464–473.
