FYI Penang Visa Run
Just went to Penang for visa.
1st Day 800 Baht Mini Van to Penang thru Budget Tour on Beach Rd. Ask for Bee Leave Patong at 7:30pm to Hat Yai. Change vans to Penang. Arrive Penang at around 8pm Penang time. 250 Baht Banana GH. Just a room. Fan, small but clean. Share BR and shower. Clean Free internet. If you bring your own laptop free wireless as well. 2nd Day 1200 baht Visa Maju Mehar Singh Travel and Tours Located across the street from the Swiss Hotel. Passport to Mr. Manaff (Man). Knows what he is doing. Will not charge extra if he gets your passport back early. Sometimes can and sometimes not. Email: abdulmanaff@hotmail.com 250 Baht Banana GH. 3rd Day Get passport back at noon. 250 baht mini van to Hat Yai at 1pm 269 baht 2nd class bus to Phuket. Still comfortable better then a mini-van You can get VIP for about 550 baht. Arrive Phuket at about 11:30pm Notes: Beer is expensive vs Thailand. Not so attractive lady wanted 2500 baht S/T. Another place wanted 1500 baht for 30 minutes. Considering the birds available I was thinking maybe they should pay me. Food. I was starving. Cost more. Muslim ( no clue what it is) and Indian ( like to eat my food with utensils not hands) is the menu. In Hat Yai was able to eat Thai food again. Everyone is trying to sell you a visa run there. Found Mr. Man to be the man. No extra charges and when talking to him very confident in what he says. None of this maybe, i'll see, not sure responses. Take a laptop if you have it. Will bring a bottle of Sam Song with me. Will stay in Hat Yai at least a few days next time. Probably take a bus from Phuket to Hat Yai next time. Depends on arrival times. Can easily get a mini van to Penang from Hat Yai. Penang. It not on my list for a two week holiday.

80 odd views and no response. Thanks for the report Midnight and I guess a Penang visa run can be done on the cheap.
Agree with you that Penang was the reason I discovered Phuket!!! 55555.............Bit quiet for me, but a good base to discover that particular coast of Malaysia if you are up for it.............Thanks for the report. D

Great report, I guess there is few replies as there isnt much to add to the story.
I think Penang is pretty good for shopping and you can walk around for hours in the shopping centre. For food I used to eat at an Italian restaurant between Cititel and centre. I have been to Penang a lot of times but not for the last 4-5 years or so. Hat Yai and then KL become my main destinations for visa run.

Good report
It shows it can be done cheaply.
 I am going to try the new direct flight for my next visit.  The Indian restaurants in Georgetown are real good quality.
