Many Thanks Guys

I came into town today for my regular hike to the internet cafe and have seen lots of great input on this thread.

To make a long story short I didn't want to go into a lot of detail as to why I waited until the last minute to get this done but I will tell you as a lot of people have mentioned it. I do contract work and was expecting to be gone out of Thailand for about 3 months starting in early December and wanted to return to Phuket after the contract finished in early March. There would have been no problem with me coming in on a visa on arrival at that point. However, the job I was going to evaporated at the last minute so I am now wanting to spend another month in Thailand while wating for the next contract. That is why I am wanting to extend on short notice. For those who are quick criticise me, it is my problem if I am doing this on short notice...I just wanted to get some quick advice from thew expats on this thread as to if I could stretch the rules a bit...well I got it and I am grateful...I will play by the rules and thank you very much people for your good input.

By the way, I went down to the Phuket Immigration office today and got the 1 week extension. The police were very friendly...the service was very quick and I was very happy with the way it went today. Thought I'd mention it as I've seen posts by people who were less than happy there.

And Lil taking the above into consideration why bother to sensibly reply to someone who clearly lacks manners or sense, heck lets leave my question to a couple of days before my third 30 day visa expires and then ask if anyone knows of any illegal method of extending my stay!! if anyone answers not to my liking I'll be rude to them.

I for one will not assist anyone with this attitude.

Dodger, I'm not interested in your opinion. You are clearly a friend of Easyrider and refuse to see the heavy handed and arrogant way he responded to my email. I just don't get it. I am fairly new on this board but I am starting to get the picture...there are people who seem to be waiting in the wings to snipe at people who stick their necks out. I don't take that sorta rudeness face to face and I won't take it here.I came on here asking a legitimate question...I got lots of good input, but as always there are people here poised at the keyboard, waiting to rude...

I find it really funny that you are telling me that I am being rude...go back and read his post. So it's ok to be rude to the new guy...but not ok for the new guy to respond rudely?

I've found them fine and friendly there till the day one of them c@cked the entry and tippexed over it in my passport then wrote and stamped over the top of tippex. Thought little of it till the day I came to fly out and almost got arrested and accused of tampering with my passport :-(

In fact, it is not that difficult to get a multiple entry business visa to come and go as you wish if you have legitimate business there (hitting the red light districts does NOT count as "legitimate business interests"!). I don't understand the outcry over Thailand's government, wanting to get a better handle on just who is living in their country! In many cases (certainly not alll) there are undesirables that have just come to abuse a system where their pensions or savings will stretch farther because of the exchange rate. These people, despite their cries of how much they spend in Thailand, are NOT being altruistic in their intentions! They are there because THEY benefit from being there - not because they are hoping to contribute to Thailand's economy! And what they spend, while surely contributing to the economy, is on consumables like beer and food for themselves.

I have no more to say on this matter.

Okay done that, and copied both his replies above. Looked and looked, cannot see where he is being so rude to you, that warrants your response to him.

Secondly, if you do not want mine or EU's opinions, then do not come onto an open forum asking questions.

Well Dodger, I didn't come onto an open forum asking for your opinion. I came onto an open forum asking if anyone knew if there was a way to extend my stay in Thailand after being here for 3 months on an on-entry visa. Opinions are like assholes...everybody has one...I do too. I did get lots of very helpful emails so I am happy. Regarding Easyrider, he was completely unhelpful...his post is preaching about "people abusing the system" and about "red light districts not being legitimate reasons to be here in Thailand". Who the hell is he to say what is a legitimate reason to be in Thailand? Who does he think he is the Pope of India? Even people coming on sex tours are bringing money into the country. When i challenged him, of course he didn't reply...his arrogant "I have nothing more to say on this matter" is all he can say because his post is so irrational that he can't defend it. People like him piss me off...they are self-appointed experts on absolutely nothing and the spirit of his email was not to be helpful, it was to be critical of me and the guy doesn't know anything about me. As a matter of fact, I live in Phuket town. I don't smoke. I don't drink. I don't hang out in red light districts(not that that is any indication of character). I dumped a few hundred grand on the local economy...how the hell does he get off talking to me like I'm a Vegas wino?

I'm frankly surprised by your inability to see the arrogance and preachyness of his email. I've read a lot of your posts and thought you were quite bright as you seem to have a good sense of humour.

Unfortunately, the nature of open forums, you will aways get opinions and answers you didn't want. Just ignore them. These rude replies gain nothing but antagonism and repeated flaming which isn't the point of the thread.

I think you have your answers now, so see no further point in keeping this thread open for what is sure to be another flame.
