My SQL?
I just got MySQL capability on a new ISP I moved to. I think I can do stuff like a pHp bulletin board now. What other kinds of things can you do with a MySQL database? Hmmm...the photo gallery seems like one thing. What else? Can anyone point me so some resources for someone quite new to database stuff. I just know how to make pretty web pages - and want to learn more backend stuff.
My brother pointed me out to some open source site: http://sourceforge.net/
Looks kinda rough going in there for a newbie like me. I am pretty good with Dreamweaver and Adobe stuff, but the web backend stuff looks complex in a different way. Maybe I should just dive in and read the directions carefully eh? LOL.
Is this where you guys get your stuff?

You'll need to learn some programming as well like PHP.
Start off at www.mysql.com
What you can do is only limited to your imagination and coding ability.

There are tons of PHP scripts out there, browsing them and see what possibilities you can do. If the scripts needs to store or manage data/information then it is most likely it use MySQL or another database.
If you learn PHP and SQL, then you can do whatever you want yourself.

Thanks for the advice gents
Thank you guys. I really do need to learn some programming 'cause I need a CMS like Mambo. I run an informational site and want to add dynamic content easily. Also need an e-commerce area to sell my stuff.
This might take awhile, but I'll let you know how it goes. I know that I've got a learning curve to overcome in learning some programming, though.
The only problem with all that open source stuff is that the documentation is pretty sketchy, this coming from someone that has done some tech writing.
Thanks again for your help gang.
And if anyone needs any help with digital video, DVD authoring or the like - please let me know. I could probably design a pretty cool TV commercial for Mai Tai!

PHP is fairly straight forward, well I guess it is for someone that has been programming for years. There's a dummies guide out at the moment PHP and mySQL, which would great for you just starting out. Nothing implied on "dummy" side.

I am interested in Digital Video but I am just an amateur.
I would love to have an intro to put before my own video clips, or TV commercial to use in the bar, maybe
I visited your website and saw it was about Final Cut, I use Vegas Video myself.

Ha! Did you go to http://www.robpongi.com? That is actually my buddy's site. He's a crazy DV lunatic from Tokyo. What a nut! My site is actually here. But yes, it is all about Final Cut Pro - or perhaps you found that site? Anyhow, Vegas is a fine program for someone like you. Premiere Pro is also good for the WIN folks. Vegas does many cool things that Final Cut cannot do!
Well, next time at LOS maybe we can have a little video jam session with some of your clips? That would be fun. In the mean time, I'll play around with your logo a bit in After Effects. Yeee-Haw!

No, I AM a dummy when it comes to that stuff. Thanx very much for the suggestions. I'll post my short-comings here on this post. So far, you guys have pointed me in the right direction - so thanks!
