A good tip for travellers was to open a local
bank account and use ATMs to get money when needed. Not all ATMs
take VISA/MC cards, and there are high fees on some international
bank/credit cards.
But now you need Work Permit, thus, this is not an option anymore
for most travellers.
If you obtained your VISA from Sabai Express,
and it's issued at Brisbane you may have serious problem. I've been
told that many people had trouble with VISAs obtained from them,
so be careful.
Finally I spent some time to do the programming
required for the classifieds section and now it's online! Feel free
to use it!

After
about one hour on the way to Phi Phi island, fire broke out in the

were saved. (There was 29 swedish tourists aboard.) For full story,

Close to their last visit, only 10 days ago,
but now they arrive again with 2000 soldiers. One of the ships are
USS Bohomme Richard, LSD 6.
Yesterday a big party was held at Soi Eric,
a travel agency from Switzerland rented the street and arranged
a big party for it's customers. As I know, this is first time someone
do like this. They had lot of food, live music, entertainment &
shows. Look in the gallery for some pictures.
The
new management of old Bangla Center told Phuket Gazette few months
ago that the new Soi Easy will open the first floor June 1 and the
second floor in July. Soi Easy is a bar project with 68 new beer
bars. Ok, Since it's June I went to see the new bars at Bangla Road.
Well, nothing finished and the construction area look pretty much
same as when I visited the project three weeks ago.
Today US Navy arrived, with USS Russell,
USS Fort Royal and USS Niagra Falls. Not many people around, but
unlike other times we see many of them on duty and wearing white
uniforms when they walk around.
Take a look in the gallery;
I have added beautiful photos from Similan Islands, shot by Marcel
Widmer. I also added a section about diving
and snorkeling (first release).
I only see a sign about this and I will write
more about this even when I know more.
"Here is where tempers (and also fists)
sometimes flare up in all directions because of water-throwing and
body splashing". Be prepared to get wet when celebrating the
new year.
At Patong beach there will be a market/festival
area. There will also be "Patong Super Cross" nearby
the ordinary thai market April 13-14.
This time the following boats arrive; USS
Bonhomme, USS Rikhard, USS Denver and USS Pearl Harbor. Rumours
says there are many thousands of soldiers this time.
Another market, this one is
now constructed at the thai market (between nanai road and rat-u-thit
road) and is moved from Phuket Town.
Due to Senatorial election,
sale and distribution of all alcoholic beverages are prohibited
from 6 pm March 3 until midnight next day.
Welcome to this new bar with friendly staff,
they invite you for party when you come to Thailand. They also have
a homepage hosted on this server, check out the homepage
for free tequila drink.
Another temporary market place, look like
World Fair 2000 last month but this time located at Patong Beach.
Rumours about Bangla Center have been around
for a while and the owners of the bars have been waiting for the
end since November. But now it looks like the new management of
the soi finally will close down everything and begin the renovation
of the street. The new, renovated soi will be a copy of soi eric.
This time the following boats arrive; USS
Lake Camplain, USS Fort Royal, USS Rent2 and USNS Kila Ubac.
The OrBorJor (Provincial Council) election
day and strange enough, many bars are closed 4:th Feb. due to this.
(Selling and distribution of all alcoholic beverages is prohibited
across Phuket from 6:00 pm on Friday until midnight next day.) What
I saw Soi Seadragon and Soi Eric were closed, altought many restaurants,
rock hard among others were open for beer drinkers. And on Shark
Club they discussed if they should close or not when I visited my
friend there.
This time the following boat arrive; USSN
Tippendande.
This time the following boats arrive; USS
Gary, USS John S. Piccard, USS Cushing.
I
dont know what this is but the last few days they construct
a temporary market place with some amusement park facilities,
close to the real thai market. (In central patong, between nanai
road and rat-u-thit road) |
This is an important day for the thai people
and you will see thai flags, portraits, plants, flowers, banners
and lights everywhere. In Patong most bars will be closed that day
with exception for the shark club. (They never close.)
A thai annual ceremony of Brahmnin origin.
It consist of setting adrift lighted baskets of banana leaves, flowers,
paper umbrellas etc. on rivers, lakes and canals. I went to the
festival on Karon beach were they also had some entertainment, food
and fireworks this fullmoon night. You can see my report and pictures
in the Gallery.
Skateboarding,
Aggressive In-Line Skating, Sport Climbing, Bicycle Stunt, Wakeboarding.
You can watch this at Patong beach. For more info, visit their homepage.
(This picture is taken from their homepage; picture of the day.)
Different events and a big
scene, but its mostly a big marketplace.
I have put few pictures from Miss Andaman Contest that was held
on the first day of the carnival in the Gallery.
A big supermarket were you can buy almost
everything to good prices, I think you should give this place a
visit. This is the first Lotus store in Phuket and number 17 in
Thailand.
There are some pictures from
the festival in the Gallery.
According to Phuket Gazette, 67 treated for injuries in Vegetarian
festival. Hospitals reported 39 were hurt by firecrackers, while
25 required
treatment for injuries sustained in face-piercing. One was burned
with hot oil, one was hit by a sky rocket and one was burned by
a joss stick.
